The Latest In Magnetic Lashes

I love a good pair of falsies but hate mucking around with glue. But as much as I loved the concept of magnetic lashes, they were falling at bit short… till now.

Glam by Manicare Eyeliner and Magnetic Lashes

The new magnetic eyeliner from Glam by Manicare is a game changer. Simply apply like liquid eyeliner, let it dry then stick lashes on top like you would with glue. Only without the fuss and mess that glue seems to bring.

Using the Glam by Manicare Eyeliner with Magnetic Lashes

What was also really exciting about the Glam eyeliner, is that I was able to use other brands of magnetic lashes with it as well. So the clip on magnetic lashes from Ardell that I hadn’t found completely practical, I am now able to wear, as I’m using just the top lashes and sticking them to the eyeliner. You can read more about my experience with the original clip on lashes from Ardell here.

What the original clip on accent lashes from Ardell looked like

The one struggle left with magnetic lashes is you can’t really trim them without cutting off a magnet, so you need to find the perfect set of lashes for your eyes. I have looked at trimming a pair of my Ardell lashes as they have 4 magnets (Glam have 3). but they would then be more like accent lashes, so I would stick to finding the right pair from the start.

With the development of this eyeliner, magnetic lashes can now become apart of my everyday beauty routine.

Does ChillSculpt (Fat Freezing/Cryolipolysis) Really Work?

Over the past couple of years I’ve noticed my metabolism has slowed down and it’s been hard to shift that little bit of belly fat, so I decided to give Chill Sculpting a go.

ChillSculpt is a fat reduction treatment using cryolipolysis technology that freezes and reduces fat cells. It is not a weight loss solution, but it is ideal for reducing unwanted fat that cannot be easily removed through diet and exercise. It is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction and requires no down time, each treatment only takes around an hour.

I went for a consultation, which was free, where they discussed the areas I needed to target the most and pricing. The treatment is quite expensive (approx $400 a session) and 6 sessions are required for the treatment to be effective.

The treatment is administered through two paddles attached to a a machine that freezes the area to -10 degrees. The paddles suck the skin up, pulsate for 2 minutes at the beginning and end of treatment and freeze for the approximately 50 minutes in between.

Only one area can be treated at a time, so if you want to target more than one area of fat, your session will be multiple hours.

I’ve found with the smaller paddles the sensation uncomfortable, but with the larger paddles it can be quite painful. You are sometimes also left with significant bruising. I have also found that areas like the stomach which are mostly fat, are less painful to have treatment on that areas like the legs where there is less fat and things like lymph nodes.

In the 50 minutes the machine is at work, you will be laying or sitting and can read a book, watch Netflix on your phone or whatever other activity you can do while being reasonably still (you are connected to the machine after all). The biggest issue I found was that during the treatment time the therapist didn’t really check on me, so if I’d encountered any issues they weren’t easily on hand.

Now at my last session, I can’t say I’ve noticed much change. I have slight hollows in the areas I targeted on my legs, but it hasn’t really helped with an overall body sculpt. For me ChillSculpting is mostly chill with little sculpt.

Guide To The Sephora Beauty Bus

Makeup addicts across NZ are lining up to check out the Sephora Beauty Bus as it crosses the country ahead of the first New Zealand store opening in Auckland later this month.

I love a good make up promo, but is it worth a visit?

The bus is stationed a major locations in some of NZ’s biggest cities for a couple of days between 12-4pm. Surprisingly this time frame has been adequate, with the lines not being nearly as long as anticipated. I’ve always been the kind of person that if I have to wait more than an hour, I often decide it’s not worth the hassle, so I was pleased not to have to turn around before I started.

The bus is two levels, the top has lip products and highlighters to try with selfie stations at each end, the bottom is about color matching skin products and eye shadow palettes. Sephora’s brand, Fenty, Kat Von D, Tarte and a little bit of Becca were the brands being demonstrated. On each level you could swatch the products or have a makeup artist apply them like any beauty counter. An ipad was also available to order products you liked off their online store.

Their sample they were handing out periodically was sample sachets of the Huda Beauty Demi Matte Cream Lipsticks. I quite liked the choice if sample as it let me try an range of colours, some that I might not normally try.

All up, it’s worth a visit if you are interested in the ranges and would like to try something before you buy it (for me that was Tarte’s foundation), or also like me, are just a bit nosy. But if you’re like the person behind me in the line that was in it for “the free shit” you’ll probably be disappointed.

Are You Going Plastic Free This July

The zero-waste movement is gaining momentum bit by bit and Plastic Free July is a great way to kick start your life style change.

The great thing about Plastic Free July for those who can’t see themselves going 100% plastic free is that you don’t have to. The idea is about being more conscious of your purchasing and using decisions as oppose to being perfectly plastic free.

Plastic Free July was founded by The Plastic Free Foundation people can take a pledge to participate on their website. You can pledge to observe the challenge for just one day, one week, the entirety of July, or for July and beyond. You can also pledge to reduce your plastic in a few different ways: such as avoiding single-use packaging, avoiding the “big four” (bags, bottles, straws and coffee cups), or aiming to go completely plastic-free. You can also pledge to make these changes personally or for a local community group or workplace.

This pledge is easily manageable at any level as any change in environmental consciousness is still as a success.

Some Ideas To Kick Start Your New Zero Waste Lifestyle

Plastic isn’t the only think we throw in the trash, so here are some ideas to kick start your zero waste lifestyle.

  1. Use reusable bags instead of single use plastic bags
  2. Bring a reusable coffee cup with you to your local café

  4. Carry a water bottle on you so you don’t have to buy a drink went out and about

Travel Hot Spot: New Caledonia

New Caledonia (Nouvelle Caledonie) is a hidden gem in the South Pacific. It is in French Territory and for many in the Southern Hemisphere a more affordable place to practice one’s French than in France.

Flying over New Caledonia

New Caledonia, is comprised of islands and is surrounded by barrier reef. The capital, Nouméa, merges French-influenced restaurants and luxury boutiques selling Parisian fashions with local island flavor.

Nouméa

If you are looking for a getaway that isn’t overrun with tourists and has both French and Caribbean type vibes. New Caledonia is the place for you. Relaxing on the palm lined beaches and exploring the marine life both in the ocean and the aquarium were the biggest highlights for me. But there is a great range of exploring and hiking, shopping, cuisine and cultural activities to keep you entertained.†

Gucci: Daring to be Dentally Diverse

Gucci’s new lipstick campaign has got tongues wagging. The Italian fashion brand, which is known for it’s luxury clothing, accessories and cosmetics; has challenged the fashion and beauty industry by celebrating imperfection. Their new campaign, which focuses on women with imperfect teeth, is a sharp contrast to most lipstick campaigns that show the ‘perfect’ white straight-teethed smile.

The campaign has been met with mixed results since its release on Gucci’s Instagram. Some have applauded the brand for showing real women with real teeth. Others have been disappointed that this was the direction chosen by Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele, to reinvent the image of Gucci’s cosmetic line.

Gucci, in their press release describes the campaign as “a manifesto of beauty written by the house’s creative director.”with the intention of demonstrating that “makeup should not mask, but rather exalt, flaws and make them part of the language of beauty.”

The campaign features Dani Miller, the lead singer of punk band Surfbort, as well as models Mae Lapres, Achok Majak and Ellia Sophia Coggins. It is photogrpahed by Martain Parr and filmed by Chris Simmonds.

The collection is currently exclusively available at the Saks Fifth Avenue’s New York Flagship store. It will be launched nationally and internationally after May 29.

Midnight Eye Shadow

Inspired by my last article on places to see at nighttime, I was also inspired to do a midnight eye shadow look.

I started with Stila’s Glitter and Glow in Diamond Dust as the base (twinkling stars), then used Chi Chi’s O.M.F.G and Naturals palettes in purple, blue and black shades, to create and ombre look. This is then paired with ZA’s liquid eyeliner and Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I kept the brows simple with the Billion Dollar Brows Universal Brow Pencil and a touch of pearl highlight underneath the brow arch.

Super simple and can be paired with a neutral or dynamic lip and highlighting. I paired it with the Tarte Pro Glow Highlighting Palette and Kat Von D’s Everlasting Glimmer Veil lipstick.

5 Best Monuments and Cities To See At Night

Hearing the sad news about Notre Dame recently reminded me of when I was in Paris and some of the amazing sights I saw. You can read about some of my favorite attractions here. But what it also inspired was a train of thought about which attractions are really work braving the cold dark night to see (although they all look great during the day as well). And unsurprisingly at the top of the list is…

Monuments

  1. Eiffel Tower – Paris

The Eiffel Tower or Tour Eiffel is at its most beautiful at night. Twinkling against the Paris skyline it is both striking and majestic. Recommended vantage point: Place du Trocadéro.

No photo description available.
  • Times Square – New York

While still amazing during the day, these LED Billboards are most impressive at night. Recommended vantage point: in the middle of Times Square.

  • Bellagio Fountain – Las Vegas

When this is lit up it’s pretty spectacular. Recommended vantage point: in front of the fountain.

Cities

  • Manhattan – New York

Manhattan transforms at night. The hustle, bustle and city grime are masked when this city lights up. Recommended vantage point: Empire State Building, 86th floor.

  • Las Vegas Strip – Las Vegas

It’s called the strip for a reason, the city most famed for its use of neon is spectacular and lively at night. Recommended vantage point: there are too many places.
